Delivery services are growing daily, so it is common practice for companies to frequently offer jobs in different positions. Grubhub is a profitable source of jobs, so it’s no surprise that hundreds of Americans are applying to join the company. What is the selection process like, and how long does it take?
Grubhub currently has 300,000 U.S. restaurant partners on its app, so they have an average of 745,000 customers ordering through it. This results in a fairly high flow of orders and a lot of work for delivery drivers, so job openings are constantly active.
Requirements for applying to Grubhub
To work at Grubhub as a delivery driver, you need to own a car or bicycle if the state you reside in has bicycle routes available. The company does not provide delivery cars.
Another important requirement is to be at least 19 years old; in the case of residing in Las Vegas, you must be at least 21. Additionally, they suggest having at least two years of driving experience, not necessarily working as a delivery driver, but driving.
Drivers must have up-to-date documents in the United States, such as a valid driver’s license. The company is not responsible for any damage caused to the driver’s car or any other vehicles in case of collisions. Therefore, it must be verified that the driver’s insurance papers are up-to-date.
Bicycles are usually only accepted in states with a larger population and, therefore, greater demand. For this, the delivery driver must have a state ID.
Using an iPhone, an Android, or some other form of a smartphone with active mobile data is also important, as it’s required for things like downloading and using the application, having an employee profile, receiving orders, and tracking locations.
Grubhub background check
Upon receiving the application, the delivery company will start the screening process. One of the most important steps is the criminal background check. Grubhub will access the person’s criminal record to ensure customers’ safety, reliability, and comfort.
It must be ensured that everything is in order with respect to the law. Otherwise, it can affect the delivery driver’s reputation as well as the entire company’s reliability for employing them and letting them come into contact with American citizens.
That is why the company takes the trouble to analyze each applicant’s criminal record in specific areas that can affect them as a company.
Alcohol or drug-related violations
Anyone applying for a job at Grubhub must submit a legal background check for alcohol abuse or drug use within the last seven years. Grubhub may consider the person unqualified if they meet any violation that is considered serious.
Among the aspects to be considered are violations of U.S. highway law. A serious violation, such as causing an accident while under the effect of alcohol or drugs, can automatically void the job application.
Three minor traffic violations, such as driving without a license, skipping a red light, or speeding, will also be a determining factor in disqualifying the person. It is important to note that all violations within the last three years will be considered.
This is of very high importance as most of the working time will be spent in a car. The driving record will say a lot about the person’s suitability for this job.
The criminal background check is perhaps the most important determinant in the selection process. Grubhub can automatically reject an application if the person has a history of felonies such as sexual harassment, violence, theft, or damage to private property.
Time of background check
The estimated turnaround time for the background check and selection process usually lasts from 3 to 7 days. This may vary in some cases but will mostly depend on your applying state. This is because some courts may delay the background check, so the company must wait for the physical background check to be sent to them.
Applicants can check the verification status through the app, so they can estimate how their check is going and how soon they will receive a response.
To see their status, they should either check their email or, in the Grubhub application, click on the action button; a percentage graph will appear showing the percentage of applications for the job; the more steps you go through, the more the graph will fill.
The steps that will appear in the graph are: “Configure your profile“, “Authorize your background check”, “New driver procedures”, “Driver incorporation”, “Configure direct deposit,” and “Equipment pick up”.
Upon completing all steps, the application will display a checkmark on your profile, meaning that you are now authorized to work with Grubhub.
