Uber Technologies, Inc., better known as Uber, operates nationwide as an American transportation company. Initially dedicated to being just a personal mobility company through cabs that are contacted from an application, they also diversified into the transportation of parcels, packages, courier and food delivery with Uber Eats.
Transportation in a cab with Uber is synonymous with safety. Customers indicate the route they wish to take in the application, an amount to be paid is displayed, and, after being born, a driver arrives for the applicant. However, many people who want to pay with credit cards get stuck on the payment option when the app rejects the credit. Why won’t Uber accept my credit card?
Why is Uber not accepting my credit card?
Uber’s payment platform accepts different payment methods. These include credit cards, bank transfers, and transactions from applications such as Paypal, Apple Pay or Android Pay. Generally, these means of settling the account usually work, but some credit cards tend to have problems in the transaction.
The app accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card and JCB credit cards. It does not accept transactions from other cards, but sometimes the company also declines payments from allowed cards.
A few reasons why a payment method may not register, but most of them have to do with how recent your account is. If your account is “pending approval” and has not been verified or activated properly, you will not be able to add payment methods. If you recently signed up for Uber, you may not yet have access to enter payments. This is the first option to rule out.
The Uber website offers some other answers that may be valid, depending on the case. If the app issues some of these messages, it means you need to update your payment method:
- Request error: card declined
- If your payment method is invalid, update your billing settings
- There was an error processing your request
If you cancel your trip, you must change or update your payment method. The most common reasons for declining payment for these methods are as follows:
- The card number is incorrect
- The credit card may be expired
- You do not have sufficient funds to assume payment
You may also need to contact your bank if the rejection is due to the following options:
- You are abroad, and these transactions are not allowed
- The bank rejected the payment on suspicion of a fraudulent transaction
- You exceeded the withdrawal limit of the account
- You had a report of loss or theft of your card

Other Uber alternatives
When your case does not correspond to any of the above alternatives and your card works perfectly, the company recommends checking the application. Sometimes it is the application itself that causes the rejection. To rule out this option, follow these instructions:
- Delete the application and re-download it directly from your app store
- If you have the previous version, upgrade to the latest version to enjoy all the benefits
- Try logging in from another device when the problem does not respond to the above two options. Sometimes the problem is related to the compatibility between the app and the device
- Remove and re-add the payment methods and an alternative payment method to re-include the existing ones
If you are still having difficulties after implementing all these tips, we recommend that you write to Uber technical support to report the problem.
Maybe the problem is due to system problems, and they can modify it thanks to your request.
