It is very tricky to find out the best health insurance in order to get proper and full coverage, at least in the cases of senior citizens.

In case you are a new U.S. immigrant or moving to the U.S. for the very first time, or you have a green card but outside the country of the U.S., and you are planning for a short trip to the United States, then you are on the correct article. 

If your case matches the above cases, you can have travel insurance or travel medical insurance, which will give you coverage during your trip. But this insurance would be based on a temporary situation. This will give you protection but for a short period.

If you already have a green card or are an immigrant, you can choose the plan that will fit you the best. But before that, it would be depended on the specification over what type of immigrant or green card holder you are.

However, in this article, we will look at the most common types of new U.S. immigrants or some green cardholders. So, keep reading this article carefully and also, make sure that you won’t miss anything important.

Green Card Holders Outside the Country

There are the majority of people who have green cards but don’t stay in the country of the U.S. or even if they live there but only on a temporary basis. Or you are one of them who move to the U.S. every six months or only once a year.

If this is your case, then it is highly recommended you have a visitor’s insurance plan, or you can also have an immigrant plan. Although you will get fit into the eligibility criteria of these two plans perfectly. These plans are specially made for those above the age of 60 or 65, and they are green cardholders.

Although if you are a permanent resident of the U.S. and spend your 300 days outside the country of the U.S., then you are not liable to get the benefit of the Affordable Care Act, this may not be requisite.

Green Card Holders That Are Permanent Residents Of The U.S. Country

The U.S. government have no longer requesting government healthcare under the Affordable Care Act from the residents of the country. Now, every citizen has the right to decide which kind of health insurance they want. It will be differentiating.

It is up to you which policy you are going to choose. But, it is suggested that while you choose, choose wisely. Because this insurance policy is going to cover the medical expenses for you and your whole family, so, make sure it covers all your necessities of yours or not.

In addition, now talking about gree cardholders senior citizens, if they are the permanent residents of the U.S., then they can avail advantages of some domestic healthcare too. Like Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and many more.

Suppose you are above the age of 65 and also a green cardholder. Then you might be eligible for federal services like Medicare, State-Sponsored Medicaid, MediCal, and many more U.S. state-federal health programs.

Immigrants That Are Under The Process Of Getting A Green Card

If you have a visitor’s insurance visa and your family will apply for a green card. Then you will be no more considered a visitor of the country. And your green card will be processed, but until that, you will be viewed as a visitor to the country.

During this waiting period, you can also apply for a visitor’s health insurance policy plan. This plan is as same as Atlas America, Liaison Travel Economy, Inbound USA, etc.

Although once you get your green card or you get approval for a green card, then you can process further for the next step. Then you can shift your plan and look at them for extra coverage as being the holder of a green card.

If you are a permanent resident of the U.S. and a green card holder, and a senior citizen for more than five years, then you can apply for such government-sponsored health benefit programs.
