Our London office continues to expand its presence through the talent, dedication, and entrepreneurship of our 30-plus lawyers, a market-leading team that has established itself as a true European player within a global firm. We provide a wide range of legal services to corporates, financial institutions, investment banks, and private equity houses on transactions and arbitration/disputes that are shaping the future of their businesses. We take special pride in knowing that these clients regularly re-engage us for our services.
In London you will be part of an international network, collaborating with colleagues here and abroad to provide clients with seamless service wherever they may be. You will have the opportunity to work with one of our acclaimed practice groups – private equity, funds formation, corporate finance, and banking – and with our experienced practitioners in international arbitration and litigation, tax, competition, and regulation.
As a trainee you will generally experience four six-month seats, although a seat may be split between two areas. You will work primarily in our core international transactions and litigation practices. O’Melveny trainees are also regularly seconded overseas to our offices in Hong Kong and Brussels for three to six months.
We encourage our trainees to be proactive and to take responsibility at an early stage. You will work in a very supportive and inclusive environment where a designated training partner, along with allocated supervisors, will provide you with regular formal and informal feedback. As a trainee you are also allocated a mentor who will support you throughout your training contract and into your career post qualification.
Successful candidates need to have proven academic ability, heading for a 2:1 or above, excellent communication skills, a commitment to teamwork, and the ability to carry real responsibility from the outset. Sound commercial awareness and an appreciation of the context in which we and our clients operate are also essential.
Our London office enjoys an active social calendar, which includes regular social activities as well as a summer event and Christmas party, which you are invited to attend once an offer has been made and accepted.
