What is a heating and ventilation pipe fitter?
At a fixed workplace in Oldbury mechanical service modules are assembled for delivery to our UK wide projects, to be installed on-site at LOR new builds, such as hospitals, schools and airports by an additional team. These modules are assembled together by a team of mechanical pipe fitters and electricians. As a mechanical pipe fitter you would be part of a delivery focused assembly team that are provided frames and large pipe work from other areas of production, to then be tasked with fabrication of smaller pipe work services, brackets and valving circuits to then be installed and completed to a fixed design before being pressure tested and delivered to a large customer team. Traditional pipe fitting skills are gained, and quality fabrications and installs are learnt and utilised every day on several exciting projects.
The Laing O'Rourke Apprenticeship programme - what can you expect?
This apprenticeship will provide the necessary skills to fabricate and install pipe work services in a range of materials and proprietary systems in an off-site facility. Learning and applying construction skills in a fixed facility without the need to travel to different construction sites week to week. On-site [at the Oldbury facility] training and experience will be complemented by an extensive construction college apprenticeship programme that will lead to you becoming a competent Pipe fitter and gain heating and ventilation qualifications.
As a Laing O'Rourke apprentice you will work through a structured programme that will take between two and four years depending on your apprenticeship choice. The programme will combine practical onsite experience and academic learning at college.
As part of the Apprenticeship programme, you will be expected to achieve a level 2 or 3 apprenticeship standard. You will attend college on either a block or day release format, depending on the college you are assigned to.
Your apprenticeship journey will be supported by experienced trades people and construction professionals that will work closely with you, providing regular feedback on your progress towards completing your apprenticeship. You will benefit from highly competitive rates of pay and will work on some of the most exciting projects in the UK.
