We have requirements for people to join our Counter Terrorism and Security Division (CT&S) to undertake an Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives Degree Apprenticeship
We are looking for someone who:

During your apprenticeship, whether you are involved with work supporting our colleagues such as the Home Office, MoD, National Crime Agency, Army, Navy and other government departments, you will be part of a supportive team with the opportunity to develop and learn about the exciting work of Dstl.
You will be encouraged and supported through the programme to take ownership of your development through Independent Learning to realise your full potential.
This Apprenticeship will consist of a mixture of academic learning through block release at University and practical work within various groups with Dstl.
During the Apprenticeship programme you will follow one of 4 pathways depending on your natural skills :
• Technical Professional
• Safety Professional
• Breakdown and disposal Professional
• Test and Evaluation Professional

During the programme you will work across the different Counter Terrorism and Security Division areas:
The core expertise of the Energetics Technologies Group (ETG) lies in the science of explosives and weapons for the purpose of evaluating threats and keeping Britain safer. The group uses a range of scientific and engineering methods including laboratory, field testing (trials) and physics-based modelling to inform the provision and assurance of solutions that contribute to making Britain safer.
The Energetics Analysis Group has a broad remit delivering three key capabilities:
Explosives Detection - supporting the UK ability to detect, identify and analyse explosives and related materials through one or more of the following areas:
• Analytical chemistry and physics based techniques
• Animal Behavioural Science (e.g. scientific support to use of trained detection dogs)
• Laboratory and trials based assessments
The Energetics Analysis Group is also the focal point for the STEM Futures scheme within the CT&S Division. The scheme looks to provide a talent pipeline addressing specific skills gaps and makes use of links with industry and academia to provide placements to support this.
Policing and Security
The Policing and Security Group provides technical support to crime and security programmes and has five capabilities teams:
• Contraband and Threat Detection – Detection of criminal and terrorist ‘contraband’ such as weapons, explosives through to alcohol and tobacco,
• Forensics and Identity – Fingerprint capabilities
• Frontline Equipment – Operational technologies (such as helmets, body armours) and Frontline Service search and surveillance support
• Secure Infrastructure – Physical and technological barriers to protect critical national infrastructure
• Technical Intelligence and Investigation – Digital investigation capabilities.
The security of our work means that only UK nationals who have also resided in the UK for the last 5 years (10 years for certain roles) can be considered. Some roles will require Developed Vetting (DV). Unfortunately dual nationals cannot be considered.

Things you need to know
Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check.
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.
Selection process details
This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Ability, Experience and Technical skills.
This is a funded higher level 6 apprenticeship. If you hold a qualification in a similar subject and is of a higher level, you may not be eligible to undertake the role.

As part of the application you will be required to complete Verbal Reasoning & Numerical Reasoning Ability Tests. You will require internet connection to complete these. The tests are offered in order one after the other so once you have successfully completed the first ability test, you will be invited to start the second. Each test should take about 45 minutes to complete so you will need to allow approximately 1.5 hours to complete all of them.
You will need to complete these tests before you can finish your application form. The deadline for these tests is 1200 on 11th March 2020.
Your application will be assessed on your answers to the Technical questions, the behavioural statements and your statement of suitability. Please see the attached job description for the full requirements of this apprenticeship.

Applicants invited to interview will undergo a combined Technical and Behavioural based interview which will assess their skills relating to the requirements detailed in the attached job profile.
