5 Weird and Wonderful Ways to Work Career Envy

5 Weird and Wonderful Ways to Work
This lil fella got the elf job in the end...

Whilst a lot of the careers we talk about on AllAboutCareers are not too far from the middle ground, there’s plenty of scope in the job market for opportunities that are a little bit more left-field!

Some recent research from our friends at CV Library has exposed some of the best job adverts we’ve ever seen floating around and we thought it was only fair to share them with you – here’s some of our favourites.

Empty Office-Sitter

Based in London, these kind people who really love their office didn’t want it to get left by itself overnight, so were looking to pay someone £8 an hour to make sure it didn’t get too lonely in their. Thankfully, tea and coffee were provided.

Strolling Elf

In Watford, elves are apparently in short supply – this was an call for an appropriate stand-in to go spreading the Christmas cheer and invite kids to come and see Santa Claus, and you’d get £6.50 an hour to do it!

Cricket Mascot

A personal favourite, the criteria on this job in Warrington asked for only physically fit people to apply due to the requirement of wearing a ‘substantial lizard suit’ in order to become Lizzie the Lizard, but thankfully, at only £7 an hour, ‘fly catching skills’ were not a requisite for the position.

Roadkill Cleaner

Out in Farnham, there’s a real need for someone to come and clean up the streets, and they must have a positive attitude, according to this advert. What is perhaps best about this though, is that instead of getting paid per hour, the lucky worker gets £7 per animal! Surely they’d start running them over themselves?!

Trainee Banana Ripener

The only full-time role on here – in Kent you can be paid £20,000 per year to ensure the bananas are of the right quality to meet customer expectations. The only requirement is an interest in fruit, but we’d be interested to read their rules on eating in the workplace!

So there you have it, 5 of our favourite job adverts for the year – and next time you’re getting bored in your office, just remember, there’s a banana factory in Kent crying out for your skills. We can see the ap-peel!
