The Hacker Young Group is a collection of chartered accountants which has been in business for 85 years in 2010. A series of mergers of several firms between 1930 and 2004 led to the creation of an international network of accountancy firms with the initials UHY preceding the individual member firms’ names.
Currently, the Hacker Young Group network spans 76 countries, with 242 member firms within the country of origin—the United Kingdom—the group operates out of 19 offices, with 92 partners and more than 500 employees. The UK network is counted among the Top 20 Groups of Chartered Accountants in the country.
The UK practice, known formally as UHY Hacker Young has offices spread across England, Wales and Scotland as follows:

The training contracts at UHY Hacker Young are built around three different professional credentials:
Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) provided by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland (ICAS).
Chartered Certified Accountant (CCA) provided by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Chartered Accountant (CA) provided by the ICAS.
Training contracts are of three years duration, including the ACA/ACCA exams and the training required to obtain these credentials. The firm provides full support to trainees for completing these qualifications. The framework of professional training during the training contract covers:
Tuition sessions provided by a leading specialist tutor.
Regular monitoring of exam preparedness.
Structured programme of practical skills training.
While the exact programme varies from location to location, in general UHY Hacker Young training contracts involve a mix of classroom study and hands-on work experience; regular appraisals and feedback on performance; meetings with the counselling manager every six months; and formal reviews with the supervising partner.
Trainees can also avail of secondments to other UHY Hacker Young offices or to departments outside their scope of regular training.

School Leaver Programmes
If you are focused on building a career in accountancy but do not want a university education, we offer the opportunity to gain a professional qualification and earn a salary at the same time as gaining relevant work experience for your CV.
Our non-graduate training programmes are designed to offer ambitious A level (or equivalent) students the opportunity to qualify and build a career in accountancy. You will benefit from both on-the-job training and classroom based study, as well as learning from the established accountants all around you.
We offer two qualifications; the ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) and the AAT Accounting qualification, which allow you to complete your ACA or ACCA professional qualification without the need for a university degree.
This programme lasts two years during which you will work towards your ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) certificate. Upon successful completion you will then have the opportunity to complete the ACA professional qualification.
This programme is expected to last up to four years during which you will work towards your AAT qualification. Upon successful completion you will then have the opportunity to complete the ACCA professional qualification.
Under both programmes, you will be given early responsibility from day one and can expect exposure to clients incorporating a wide diversity of work and various challenges that will help you develop the skills you need to succeed as an accountant.
We’ll support you in every way we can with high-quality training focusing on both technical areas and soft skills, including effective communication, presentation and negotiation skills. We will assign you a personal mentor who will support you where necessary and ensure you are happy.

Training contracts are currently offered in London, Birmingham, Brighton, Nottingham, Manchester, Sunderland, Sheffield, Newport and Scotland. Each office follows a separate schedule and has different entry requirements. The individual details are listed below in the respective sections, including this one.
London: 2:1 degree or higher in any discipline; a minimum of 280 UCAS points excluding General Studies; and grade B or higher in Maths at GCSE, A-levels or other jurisdictional equivalents.
Birmingham: Minimum 2:1 degree and 320 UCAS points.
Brighton: Grade B or higher in English and Maths at GCSE; 280 UCAS points at A-levels and a 2:1 degree.
Nottingham: 2:1 degree and 280 UCAS points (at a minimum, grades A-C in Maths at GCSE or A-levels).
Manchester: 280 UCAS points and a 2:1 degree.
Sheffield: 2:1 degree and 280 UCAS points (at a minimum, grades A-C in Maths at GCSE or A-levels).
Sunderland: 2:1 degree and 300 UCAS points.
Scotland: 2:1 degree or higher in any discipline; 4-5 A and B grades at Scottish Higher levels, including English and Maths.

Vacancies, important dates and selection process at each of the training contract locations are as below:
London: The ACA programme starts in December and the ACCA in September each year. ACA trainees are placed in the Audit department (8-12 open positions per annum) and ACCA trainees in the Business Advisory Services department (two to four vacancies).
