At Thrings our training contract is a little bit different. Whilst we offer the usual four seats of six months, we take a different approach with our locations. Being spread across 5 offices across the South West and London, we give trainees the opportunity to experience work in a variety of these.
Over the course of the training contract, it is usual for trainees to experience 2 or 3 different office locations. It’s a great opportunity to learn, meet different colleagues and clients, plus be part of different networks. We provide support when moving location, so don’t be put off by the thought, our trainees will tell you that it is an amazing experience.
Of course, you’ll learn on the job and from your colleagues around you, but trainees also have access to the Thrings Academy. A dedicated programme of training events, run by the Thrings training team and our Partners.
We run a mentoring scheme and you’ll have regular access to our Training Principal because pastoral care is important to us at Thrings. We’ll help you develop the skills and knowledge that you need to be a successful lawyer.
We run assessment centres for training contracts on an ad hoc basis, which is dependent on business needs. These will be advised via our website.
Internships & Placements
We run two vacation schemes each year, in Easter and Summer.
Both consist of a week-long work placement in either our Swindon or Bristol office. Candidates will spend time with our teams getting their teeth stuck into some real work alongside our senior fee earners. We aim to immerse you into Thrings life so that you can experience what it is really like to work for the Firm.
There is also the opportunity to meet our current trainees and join our Academy for an afternoon, allowing you to experience the support that we offer during the 2 year training contract. We even squeeze in a social too.
As well as meeting our fee earners and trainees, you’ll also take part in all the usual activities that you would expect to on a vacation scheme. We spread these out during the week to make it less daunting. We provide a handy guide before candidates join us and a bespoke timetable, this way you’ll know exactly what to expect and how to prepare to succeed over the course of the week.
We offer training contracts (further info in the Training Contract section) to successful vacation scheme candidates. Vacations schemes are our main recruitment for trainees, so we would encourage you to apply.

We required at least BBB at A level and a 2:1 honors degree (or equivalent).
However, we will consider 2:2 at degree level provided the candidate has suitable legal work experience.
We welcome non-law graduates and those that are looking to change career. All candidates must have completed the GDL and LPC by the start date advertised.
