By working with the graduate recruitment team, who will ensure that both the firm’s and the SRA’s requirements are met, London trainees can tailor their Training Contracts from a range of different seats during the two-year programme. You’ll undertake four seat rotations and for each seat you’ll share a room with a partner or senior associate who’ll supervise your work and development.
As well as completing rotations across our core practice areas, we also offer exciting secondment opportunities. These could take you to one of our international offices (Chicago, Hong Kong, Singapore and Frankfurt) or, if you don’t want to stray too far, a client secondment in the UK.
The Legal Practice Course (LPC)
Before beginning the Training Contract, we ask all of our future trainees to attend our Legal Practice Course (LPC) at BPP in London. This bespoke course offers you tailored electives that have been devised in collaboration with our lawyers. It also includes US law modules, as well as negotiation and research tasks. During the course we’ll ensure that you feel part of the firm from day one. To give you regular contact with the firm, there will be a number of practice area presentations from our partners and associates. You’ll also have career development 1:1’s with the graduate recruitment team, as well as regular social events with the other LPC students.
Training and development during your Training Contract
While in each practice area, you’ll attend legal training and workshops specific to that group and area of law. Here, you’ll participate in practice group meetings where recent legal developments and updates are discussed. You’ll also benefit from briefing sessions on key legal developments and in-house databases, provided by professional support lawyers. We’ll make sure your expectations are met, providing you with guidance and support throughout your two years. Your supervisor will give you an appraisal halfway through and at the end of each seat to ensure your personal development and progress is tracked.
Trainee Development Centre
Finally, during your Training Contract you’ll complete our internal Trainee Development Centre (TDC), designed to enhance your client handling skills and business acumen through a live project. TDC works to improve your self-awareness, client handling, project management, awareness of the mechanics of a business and team working skills, as well as offering an understanding of ways to enhance your professional reputation.
Internships & Placements
The Vacation Scheme will give you first-hand experience of life at a global law firm, where you’ll assist associates with real deals and share an office with a partner or associate. The programme also includes planned social activities, including a trip to our Paris office. Based at our London office, you’ll be assigned a trainee buddy who will support you throughout your time in the firm.
The Vacation Scheme is designed so you can get to know the firm and the people you’ll potentially work alongside, as well as a chance for us to get to know you. We’ll ask your supervisors for feedback during the scheme and there will be an interview at the end to assist us with our training contract decisions.

Let’s talk apprenticeships.
If a full time university degree isn’t the route for you and you want to earn whilst you learn, our Legal Apprenticeship programme is a fantastic alternative route to working in law and qualifying as a solicitor. It is a six year structured training programme which combines work and study. It includes a four year part-time LLB Hons Law Degree followed by the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and the Professional Skills Course (PSC) to be completed in the final two years. Based in our London office, the apprentice will spend the first 12-18 months in Business Services departments (such as Risk and Compliance, Legal Training and the Information Centre) to gain a broad understanding of how the firm operates before starting work in our legal groups. By the end of the six years the apprentice will have the same level of qualification as trainee solicitors who have completed their training through the traditional route.

Salary & Benefits
The firm will cover the cost of the GDL and LPC and provide a maintenance grant of £7000 for LPC in London at BPP and £7000 for GDL in London and £6500 elsewhere. The firm asks all LPC students to complete the LPC at BPP law school in London.
- Starting Salary: £43,000
We are looking for candidates who not only have a consistently strong academic record, including a minimum of a 2:1 degree or equivalent and AAB at A Level or equivalent in any discipline, but who also have a wide range of interests and achievements outside their academic career.
