Our relationship with school leavers spans over 40 years. Now we’re investing these decades of experience to form the M&S Retail Management Apprenticeship for School Leavers.
What’s in store for you?
You’ll get to experience every conceivable aspect of store operations on our scheme, from managing £multi-million budgets to leading people and teams. Alongside on-the-job mentoring, you’ll spend time working towards your Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Retail Management.
After 12 to 18 months, you’ll be ready to become a Commercial Manager and take charge of an entire department. From there, there’s no limit to where you can go with M&S.
We’re offering you a head start on your peers, a chance to start earning for real and a unique way into retail management with a high street icon. As if that weren’t enough, you can look forward to rewards including:
- £18k salary rising to £26k on appointment
- 28 days annual leave
- 20% discount on M&S purchases
- Competitive pension package
- Partner discounts on everything from gym membership to cinema tickets, computer equipment to travel
The M&S graduate programmes offer a range of opportunities across their different business areas. The majority of vacancies are for the Retail Management scheme, where you’ll work towards becoming a Commercial Manager in an M&S store.
You don’t need a particular degree, but you do need to be good with people, and have a sound commercial understanding.
There is also an 18-month HR scheme, where you’ll spend time with both -store and Head Office HR teams. And if you have a relevant degree, you could apply for a Head Office role – like IT, Design, Buying, Merchandising, Product or Food Technology.
Wherever you join, the end of the programme will be just the start of your career with M&S – one that will let you shape and grow the business.
Internships & Placements
If you need to do a work placement as part of your degree, there’s no better place to get retail experience than M&S. With opportunities in Retail Management, HR, E-commerce, Food Technology, Food Product Development, Product Design or Per Una, their placement schemes have even been given a Quality Mark by the National Council for Work Experience.
Almost all M&S placements last for 12 months, starting in July. However, placements for Food Product Developers and Food Technologists last for six months, and run from July to December.
Marks & Spencer have an eighteen month Trainee Management Scheme for school leavers.
Their programme is more than a fast track to a Commercial Manager. It’s the way for you to get the range of retail expertise you need to develop a long and successful career with them. Through a combination of on-the-job learning, real-life project work, and development activities, you’ll get to know retail management inside out – all while receiving the best reward package on the high street.
