We are a growing firm, boasting 13 offices worldwide which support four core sectors: transport, trade, energy & infrastructure and insurance. Clients are also supported by experienced teams specialising in commercial disputes, compliance, corporate and commercial issues and finance.
From the moment you step through the door you’ll be given real responsibility for real cases. Although your work will be supervised by partners, you’ll also enjoy a high level of autonomy. You’ll need to be proactive too.
At Ince we don’t have rigid departmental structures so you’re encouraged to approach partners and get involved in all aspects of our practice areas throughout your training contract. The areas themselves are broad, for example shipping law can involve anything from the financing of a vessel to advising on a collision at sea.
Occasionally we’re also able to offer our trainees the opportunity to work in one of our overseas offices, or to go on secondment to one of our clients. Secondment opportunities vary but in the past we’ve had trainees go on secondment to our Monaco, Dubai, Hamburg and Piraeus offices, and to clients across our practice groups including P&I clubs, energy contractors, and Lloyds syndicates.
And, because our trainees don’t operate on a billable targets system, it will be your contribution that counts the most. So you’ll find that we’re a firm that prefers its people to enjoy a healthy work/life balance.
Internships & Placements
There are 10 places available on Ince & Co’s Trainee Recruitment Placement Scheme. We run two intakes over the Easter holidays. Each intake lasts for two weeks, during which participants sit with a partner and are assigned a current trainee as their minder.
Tasks undertaken often include real casework and could involve attending court, meeting clients and other counsel, drafting letters, and conducting legal research.
Ince & Co do not currently offer this type of programme.
School Leaver Programmes
Ince & Co do not currently offer a sponsored degree.
Salary & Benefits
Ince & Co pays our future trainees’ GDL and LPC course fees. Trainees receive a salary of £37,750 in the first year of their training contract and £41,800 in their second.
Benefits include 25 days holiday, a pension scheme, health and life insurance, subsidised gym membership and a season ticket loan.
Ince & Co looks for potential solicitors who have a strong academic background: a 2:1 degree and AAB (or equivalent) at A-level are therefore recommended. The firm is looking for candidates who can demonstrate strong ambition and a clear thought process. They must also be able to articulate why they want to work in law and, more specifically, within Ince & Co. You’ll need to be proactive, able to adapt to working in small and large groups as the need arises, be a constructive team player and demonstrate the desire to work hard with enthusiasm.
