Hi guys, thought I'd start a thread for everyone applying for vacation schemes this year... Thought we could share tips, stories and ask any questions etc.

Should we be apply to them now? I've noticed some applications close in November! Eek! Does it matter what time you apply - e.g. will it count against you if you apply two days before the deadline?

hi, from what I read I think they call people to an interview on a rolling basis so I guess the earlier you apply the better. But at least in theory they should look at your application if it's within the deadline anyway.

Are all summer vacation schemes aimed at students in their penultimate year of law? Also, how do we know which firms to apply for?

No, many do accept applications from third years and graduates, non-law students etc, although the majority are aimed at penultimate year law students and final year non-law students. There are also a few scheme for first year law students. Here's some links to some first year schemes: http://www.blplaw.com/trainee/index.cfm/first_year_opportunities/1912 http://gradsuk.cliffordchance.com/workshops.html http://www.dlapipergraduates.co.uk/events/open_days/ http://graduates.hoganlovells.com/your_career/vacation_schemes http://www.linklatersgraduates.co.uk/schemes-and-programmes/pathfinder http://graduates.simmons-simmons.com/en/English-Graduate/Vacation-Schemes
