How do people get discovered by record labels? I've been writing and performing songs for a while now and I think (not to be bigheaded) that I'm pretty good. How can I attract the attention of record labels?

Hi Janavica, I'd start by making sure you do plenty of gigs and festivals. Try and build up a network of music contacts. The music business is a commercial business so think about what market your music is playing to - does it reach a new market? Is it the kind of music that is around now? Many of the bigger record labels will be looking for a certain 'type': for example now they might be looking for Adele, Ed Sheeran type artists. Unfortunately you really have to be aware of the market you fit into - is your area of music oversaturated with female solo artists? Or is there a need for someone like you?
