Trainee Solicitor

Description

The training contract begins with a detailed induction programme and includes the completion of the Professional Skills Course core modules. A ‘buddy’, from the previous batch of trainees, is assigned to each trainee solicitor, who helps with adjusting and settling down in the Reed Smith environment, during the first six months of the training contract.

Trainee solicitors are required to spend six months in four seats through the two year training period; covering one contentious and one non-contentious practice in accordance with SRA policies. Secondments to certain clients’ offices or overseas placement at any of the other Reed Smith offices are also offered.

Along with practical work experience through seat rotation, trainees will also continue to attend regular formal training sessions, including the remaining modules of the PSC and special programmes identified as ‘necessary’ for the trainee’s development.

A continuous system of on-the-job and end-of-seat appraisals ensures that trainees are aware of their progress and can make improvements, thereby increasing their chances of being offered a permanent position at the end of the training contract and post qualification.
