Trainee Solicitor

Description

The two year Weil, Gotshal & Manges training contract is comprised of six seats of six months’ duration each, in which trainees sit with a partner or senior solicitor and work on current cases and deals.

Trainees on the Weil, Gotshal & Manges training contract are allocated early responsibility, but work with constant guidance and supervision of the seat supervisor. Selected trainees (based on performance) are sent on a six month placement at the firm’s New York or Silicon Valley offices, where they work on getting a better understanding of the US legal system.

Training begins with a detailed induction programme, covering an introduction to the firm, the London office and the departments where trainees will be based; an introduction to the I.T. systems, training on compliance and professional standards and meetings with the support teams. Other training includes subject-matter training, seminars, workshops, lectures and offsite programmes and periodic lectures from qualified lawyers on a variety of legal matters.

Apart from the seat supervisor, all trainees can choose a mentor for non-work guidance and support and the Training Principal and Graduate Recruitment Manager stay in close contact with all trainees to offer support or assistance as and when required.
