Whitbread Plc is an established leading UK company in the leisure and hospitality domain, with the distinction of being among the oldest and largest company in the restaurants and budget hotels segment; and the legacy of having owned the UK’s oldest breweries, pubs, bars and pub restaurants between 1742 and 2001 when these were sold and the company redirected its focus on the food/hospitality industry.

Whitbread Plc began in 1742 as a brewery established by Samuel Whitbread, who also introduced the concept of purpose-built mass-production brewery in 1950 and the brewing and pub-owning culture endemic to the UK.

Today, the company extends hospitality services to more than ten million customers on a monthly basis, assisted by a workforce of over 35,000 employees within the UK and in the Far East, India and the United Arab Emirates, overseas.
