Profile
DLA Piper is one of the world's largest law firms, supporting clients across the globe with their legal and business needs. They now have 4,200 lawyers working in over 70 offices, across more than 30 countries in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. Their vision is to be the leading global business law firm, delivering quality value-added services to their clients, both internationally and locally.
Prior to its tri-partite merger with US firms Piper Rudnick and Gray Carey on 1 Jan 2005, legacy English firm, DLA, had a long and distinguished history dating back to the 18th centrury. DLA in it's modern form, however, was created following the merger of Leeds headquartered practice, Dibb Lupton, and Sheffield practice, Broomheads, to form Dibb Lupton Broomhead around 1990. The firm added London, Manchester and Birmingham offices throughout the 1990s through a combination of merger and organic growth and in 1996 integrated with London, Manchester and Liverpool based firm, Alsop Wilkinson, to form Dibb Lupton Alsop (later DLA). Edinburgh and Glasgow offices were added through a further merger with Bird Semple in 2001 while further growth post the Dibb Lupton Broomhead and Alsop Wilkinson merger in 1996 saw the firm build a network of offices in major European and Asian hubs. Such global expansion has continued through Continental Europe, Asia, the Americas, Australasia and the Middle East since the tripartite merger in 2005.
