BP, is a global company engaged in the production of oil and gas. Worldwide, the company employs 80,000 people in various core, technical and support roles, based across multiple facilities, including refineries, offshore platforms and offices on six continents. In the UK, BP operates out of six main locations: Aberdeen, Canary Wharf, Hull, Pangbourne, Sunbury, and Milton Keynes.

BP began life in 1909 as the Anglo-Persian Oil Company after oil was discovered in Persia; the company was renamed the British Petroleum Company in 1954. Apart from this entity, present-day BP consists of heritage oil companies such as Standard Oil of Ohio or SOHIO; Amoco, Arco, Castrol and Aral.
