The Big Society aka the Big Joke.

Perhaps it is misunderstood. But the fact is people are seeing lots of examples of the big squeeze on society.

If you aren't familiar with the concept - it is as follows:

The Conservative/ Lib Dem coalition believe in a smaller state. They want people to rely less on the state. They think that this gap should be filled by civil society by charities, community groups and families. 

Obviously, we need to make cuts. That is not a matter for discussion. But where we make the cuts is up for discussion...

On BBC Question time this week there was a big discussion about it and I recommend you watch it - BBC Question Time.

But to be honest I don't really know what people are complaining.

Understandably people are annoyed they have to pull their fingers out and do something, but once we all get used to helping our neighbours and other in our local community it will be fine.

I say, the sooner we embrace the Big Society the better. It is not a joke and is should not be condemned every 5 minutes, that is foolish, counter-productive and just slowing down the inevitable.
