For me this is such a ridiculous rant. So many people have said to me that if you get any more than 40% in your first year you've tried too hard. Well, I'd say the following in response to that...

1. Employers will definitely look at your first year grades when making a decision. If they see that you mucked about in the first year I can't imagine it's going to be too good for your prospects.

2. You're paying for it idiot! It's not compulsary education, people aren't going to chase you to turn up anymore so take control!

3. The 2nd year will be a big shock. If you've coasted through the first year you're definitely going to struggle.
